Happy Birthday dear Book Lounge, happy birthday to you!

Dear Mervyn and your lovely Book Lounge staff, Happy Birthday!

Thanks for the cake this morning and thanks for all the rest of what you do for us too. You make my world a brighter, shinier, more beautiful place. You’ve changed Cape Town for the better, we have a vibey, happening literary scene mostly thanks to you!

We (there is a we now) at Modjaji Books wish you another seven years of bookselling, community creating, inspiration, events, friendships, great books, new books, old favourite books, discussions, arguments, debates, controversies. Keep on keeping on, we all love you!

You’ve created a legendary bookshop, with all the best things about a bookshop in it. Thank you for stocking poetry and short stories. Thank you for stocking our titles and being so supportive of Modjaji Books right from the start.

Thank you for among many other incredible things getting the bunk bed from the Kimberley Hotel, when we launched the Bed Book of Short Stories, thanks for all the launches, the wine, the snacks, for taking care of everything at launches so professionally that as a publisher we don’t have to worry.

with love, admiration, and huge gratitude for the Oasis that the Book Lounge is.

Colleen and Emily
and all of the writers we’ve published
